Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Greet and register new plasma donors into the donor management computer system
- Carry out screening procedures such as taking blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and arm checks
- Perform finger sticks to test donors for hematocrit testing and total protein testing using screening equipment. Monitor the electronic donor questionnaire system
- Determine donor eligibility by conducting medical history interviews, physical examinations, educating donors about donation risks, informed consent, confidential self-exclusion, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) testing as needed
- Provide counseling to donors regarding unacceptable test results
- Initiate and assist in donor investigations concerning post-donation information
- Evaluate and address donor adverse events during the donation process
- Follow all standard operating procedures for all medical emergencies, including communication with the Center Medical Director and transporting donors to emergency medical care facilities as necessary
- Communicate and seek guidance from the Center Medical Director and Center Management as needed
- Learn and maintain thorough familiarity and compliance with all state and federal regulations, Standard Operating Procedure Manual, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), and internal Company Procedures
- Maintain an extensive knowledge of applicable Company and departmental policies and procedures, and be willing to learn and follow any new policy or procedure introduced in the future
- Maintain an open line of communication with Management
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during all interactions with donors, fellow employees, and vendors
- Accept performance feedback in a professional manner
- Regularly attend and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts and mandatory meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- One (1) year of work experience is preferred
- Must be actively licensed or certified in the state where performing duties: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, or Paramedic, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA)
- CPR certification is required
