Medical Sonographer

About the Role

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under supervision, utilizing ultrasound technology to aid in patient diagnosis across all age groups.

Responsibilities

• Conducts ultrasound exams including abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, neuro, breast, small parts, interventional, and Doppler studies.
• Operates ultrasound equipment and related systems such as PACS, HIS, RIS, and offsite radiologist services.
• Ensures proper patient positioning, technique, and sterile procedures for invasive exams.
• Documents studies accurately, reviews patient history, and maintains patient confidentiality.
• Coordinates exams with departments, communicates effectively with staff, patients, and families.
• Maintains equipment, supplies, and participates in quality improvement activities.
• Supports clinical education by training sonography students and adhering to program standards.
• Accesses and administers drugs as per policies, maintains professional growth, and participates in meetings and projects.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• ARDMS certification required within three months of hire.
• BLS/CPR certification required; recognized agencies include American Heart Association, Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

Skills

• Knowledge of sonographic anatomy, ultrasound physics, and invasive/non-invasive procedures.
• Proficient in operating ultrasound systems, troubleshooting, and computer applications.
• Effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work under stress while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Proper body mechanics and adherence to safety protocols.
