This role is a field-based scientific partnership position supporting UCB’s Immunology Patient Value Unit (PVU) in Arizona and New Mexico. The ideal candidate will reside in Phoenix, Arizona.

About the role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a key scientific partner to healthcare providers, decision-makers, medical associations, and internal UCB colleagues. This role executes medical strategies to enhance outcomes for patients living with chronic inflammatory diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains deep scientific expertise in Rheumatology.
  • Delivers clinical value propositions and engages with key stakeholders in medical groups, IDNs, and regional payers.
  • Identifies and supports research expansion projects, medical advisors, and educational partnerships.
  • Conducts local roundtables and education programs to enhance Key Opinion Leaders’ (KOLs) understanding of unmet clinical needs.
  • Serves as a scientific expert at medical conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, and internal meetings.
  • Supports field-based cross-functional teams with medical expertise in access engagements.
  • Reviews and critiques scientific publications to inform healthcare trends in Rheumatology.
  • Collects, analyzes, and communicates information on therapeutic areas, treatment options, emerging standards of care, and competitive intelligence.
  • Addresses medical information inquiries.
  • Provides tailored clinical presentations to internal and external audiences through peer-to-peer scientific exchange.
  • Assesses feasibility and serves as the primary liaison for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) from inception to publication.
  • Provides field updates for creation or revision of Standard Response Letters.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree (PharmD, MD, DO, or PhD in a relevant field) required.
  • Valid US Driver’s License with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 2 years.
  • Must reside within the assigned territory (Arizona/New Mexico).
  • Must complete initial training and pass all assessments within 90 days of hire.
  • Extensive travel (up to 75%) required, including overnights and some weekends.

Qualifications

  • Rheumatology, Dermatology, Immunology, Infectious Disease, or Oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • 2-3 years of field medical experience required.
  • Prior product launch experience preferred.
  • Business acumen with a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Basic knowledge of health economic principles and clinical trials.

Pay

Reasonably anticipated base salary range is $134,000 – $204,000 annually. The actual salary offered will consider internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
