Responsibilities
- KOL Development and Field Engagement
- Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
- Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings in both group and one-on-one situations.
- Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals (HCPs) through on-site presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings.
- Provide scientific support for additional activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
- Scientific Expertise
- Communicate emerging data and clinical experience with our products through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions discussing benefits and risks in an objective manner.
- Acquire a broad understanding of local and national protocols and standards of clinical practice and trends in disease management.
- Engage in regular professional self-development as it pertains to one’s area of expertise.
- Maintain up to date and high-level knowledge of all pertinent therapeutic areas including emerging areas of research, therapeutic issues and trends, and competitive landscape.
- Medical Affairs Planning
- Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with Medical Affairs strategy with an overarching objective of improving patient outcomes through enhanced customer (HCP) engagement, scientific and clinical discussions, and clinical education of HCPs.
- Provide support for data generation activities (company-sponsored studies, collaboration studies, ISS).
- Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and provides input into local strategies and tactics.
- Where needed, manage relevant budget to enable execution of Medical Plan tactics as part of the wider Medical Affairs team strategy.
- Interact with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan including advisory boards, speaker development and clinical trials.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD or equivalent) or License (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with a minimum of a master’s degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical practice
- Demonstrated scientific and medical acumen preferably with a publication and teaching record
- Clinical acumen; preferably having clinical patient care experience, or healthcare experience working in a complex healthcare delivery system
- Demonstrated ability to master new therapeutic areas
- MSL or comparable industry experience is preferred
- Outstanding interpersonal consultative and communication skills (verbal and writing)
- Excellent presentation/platform skills
- Sincere desire for self-motivated continuous scientific, technical and medical learning
- Strong teaching acumen with focus on practical learning
- Demonstrated ability to develop trust and relationships with opinion leaders in disease states of interest
- Ability to manage and prioritize workload, multi-task and manage a diverse mix of responsibilities and challenges
- Ability to identify and creatively address problems in a systematic way
- Highly self-motivated and ability to work autonomously
- Willingness and ability to work within and outside of traditional business hours, both as part of a team and independently
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel
Qualifications
