About the Role

We are seeking a Scientific Leader, Strategic Medical Partner, and Field-Based Medical Expert to advance patient outcomes in lumbar disc herniation and spine-related disorders. This role thrives on scientific curiosity, clinical insight, and peer-to-peer exchange with spine and pain specialists. You will play a critical role in Medical Affairs across pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases, collaborating with internal partners while maintaining scientific integrity and compliance in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to unsolicited requests with accurate, balanced, and timely scientific information regarding Ferring’s interventional spine therapy, lumbar disc herniation, and non-surgical spine interventions.
  • Establish and maintain scientific relationships with key opinion leaders, academic centers, and community-based spine and pain specialists.
  • Support pre-launch activities, including KOL identification and mapping, early scientific engagement, disease-state education, and gathering field insights to inform medical strategy and unmet needs.
  • Support launch execution, including engagement of early adopters and centers of excellence, scientific exchange on clinical data, patient selection, and real-world use considerations, and identification of adoption barriers.
  • Identify and support Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS) and Phase IV/post-marketing research.
  • Provide scientific support for clinical trial awareness, site identification, and study execution.
  • Deliver field-based medical education on disease state, treatment landscape, and evolving standards of care. Support physician training initiatives, including simulation, cadaver, and peer-to-peer educational programs.
  • Provide compliant, non-promotional scientific training and ongoing support for commercial teams.
  • Monitor and communicate competitive intelligence, treatment trends, and emerging spine clinical data.
  • Participate in advisory boards, speaker trainings, investigator meetings, and major scientific congresses.
  • Assist in the development of medical materials, slide decks, and scientific resources.
  • Support processing of medical education grant requests and systematic field insights collection.
  • Ensure timely documentation and reporting of adverse events and product complaints.
  • Maintain current knowledge of spine care pathways, interventional techniques, and clinical practice evolution.

Requirements

  • Advanced doctoral degree required (M.D., D.O., Pharm.D., Ph.D.). Candidates with a PhD and demonstrated expertise in spine biology, biomechanics, or related disciplines are a plus.
  • 2+ years of Medical Science Liaison or related experience.
  • Experience or strong interest in spine, interventional pain, neurosurgery, orthopedics, or PM&R preferred.
  • Relevant clinical or research experience in spine, musculoskeletal, pain management, or related fields (including doctoral research and postdoctoral training).
  • Prior experience supporting product pre-launch or launch activities preferred.
  • Understanding of clinical trial design, data interpretation, and evidence-based medicine.
  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, OIG compliance, and industry standards.
  • Excellent scientific communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage in peer-to-peer exchange.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills with clinical stakeholders.
  • Analytical and critical-thinking skills to interpret and communicate complex clinical data.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial teams.
  • High emotional intelligence and strong stakeholder awareness.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 60% or more. This is a field-based role requiring residency within the assigned territory.

Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation package with a base salary range of $174,900 to $200,000, plus competitive annual incentive compensation based on individual and company performance.

  • 12 to 13 paid holidays per year.
  • 20 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • For non-field-based roles, a hybrid work policy of four days in the office with one remote day.
