Medical Records Director

About the role

The Medical Records Director/Coder oversees all Health Information Management functions in accordance with guidelines and regulations. This is a self-directed position which requires the ability to meet deadlines and work quickly in a fast-paced and demanding work area.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical records and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes for inpatient, outpatient and discharged patient records
• Retrieves clinical information for the purposes of accurate MS-DRG assignment and ensures compliance with federal regulations

Requirements

• Degree in Health Information Management
• Previous related training and experience required
• Current RHIT or RHIA registration
• CCS/CPC-H certification required
• Full understanding of HIPAA/ROI regulations
• Working knowledge of Joint Commission Standards and UHDDS coding guidelines
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work with others as a team member
• Excellent office and clerical skills
• Organization and attention to detail
• Courses/training to include medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and coding and classification systems (preferred)
• Reliable transportation required

Pay

USD $18.00 - USD $23.00 per hour. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, education and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
