Responsibilities
- Meticulously verify coverage BEFORE services are provided, preventing claim denials, and maximizing revenue capture
- Confidently explain costs, billing processes, and insurance complexities to patients in a way they understand
- Proactively identify and resolve insurance discrepancies and billing issues before they impact revenue
- Deliver exceptional service even during difficult financial conversations—keeping patients happy while handling payment matters
- Greet patients with the warmth and professionalism that makes American Family Care stand out in healthcare
- Process payments, schedule appointments, and manage patient check-ins with lightning efficiency
- Maintain organized records while strictly following HIPAA regulations
Requirements
- A high school diploma preferred; X-Ray Tech, Medical Assistant, or related certification is a plus
- Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period
Qualifications
- Experience with insurance verification and medical billing (non-negotiable)
- The ability to explain complex insurance concepts to frustrated patients with empathy and clarity
- An obsessive attention to detail—single-digit errors in an insurance ID can cost thousands
- Work experience as a Medical Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, or in any Customer Service role in a medical office setting
- Tech-savvy with medical billing software and EMR systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to find billing solutions that work for both patients and the clinic
- A positive attitude even when dealing with challenging financial conversations

Pay
The anticipated pay range for this position is $18.00 to $22.00 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, internal equity, and market conditions. We take a holistic approach to compensation that reflects the value each team member brings to our organization.
Schedule
This role is part-time with flexible shifts (some evenings/weekends).
