At American Family Care, we're not just treating patients – we're revolutionizing how people access healthcare. As the nation's leading urgent care provider with over 400 clinics across 26 states, we're looking for a detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to be the face of our clinic and the first step in our patient-first approach.

About the role

Our Part-Time Medical Receptionists keep our urgent care centers running smoothly. This role is perfect for someone who excels at resolving insurance and billing challenges while maintaining high patient satisfaction. We need someone exceptional at insurance verification and revenue recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Excel at Financial Counseling: Confidently explain costs, billing processes, and insurance complexities to patients in a way they understand
  • Solve Billing Problems: Proactively identify and resolve insurance discrepancies and billing issues before they impact revenue
  • Drive Patient Satisfaction: Deliver exceptional service even during difficult financial conversations - keeping patients happy while handling payment matters

  • Protect Patient Information: Maintain organized records while strictly following HIPAA regulations

Requirements

  • Experience with insurance verification and medical billing (non-negotiable!)
  • Ability to explain complex insurance concepts to frustrated patients with empathy and clarity
  • Obsessively detail-oriented – a single digit error in an insurance ID can cost thousands
  • Experience as a Medical Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, or in any Customer Service role in a medical office setting
  • Tech-savvy with medical billing software and EMR systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to find billing solutions that work for both patients and the clinic
  • Maintain a positive attitude even when dealing with challenging financial conversations
  • High school diploma preferred; X-Ray Tech, Medical Assistant or related certification is a plus
  • Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period

Benefits

  • Competitive pay, plus shift differentials may apply
  • Collaborative, supportive, fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to maintain clinical skills while balancing other work, school, or family commitments
  • Make a meaningful impact on patient care and community health
  • Develop highly marketable skills in medical billing and insurance - some of the most in-demand talents in healthcare
  • Receive specialized training in insurance verification and patient financial counseling
  • Build transferable clerical and revenue cycle management skills that are valuable across the healthcare industry
  • Be part of healthcare innovation that's expanding nationwide
  • Clear Career Path: Grow with AFC into roles like Billing Specialist, Revenue Cycle Analyst, or Front Desk Supervisor — or move into clinic leadership and management as we continue expanding to 500+ locations
