Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, vendors, and other visitors; notify appropriate staff of their arrival.
  • Operate telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls.
  • Schedule patient appointments and obtain current, accurate insurance information each visit.
  • Verify coverage through insurance company and obtain pre-certifications or prior authorizations as needed.
  • Maintain daily accurate records for timely billing of accounts.
  • Notify patients of account status and payments due using collection techniques to assist in keeping accounts receivable current.
  • Obtain, verify, update, and scan patient information; provide support services to patients and medical staff.
  • Verify patient’s current insurance coverage through insurance websites.
  • Collect and post co-pays and past due balances; complete necessary forms and obtain signatures.
  • Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
  • Manage referrals through EMR.
  • Follow incentive guidelines to help the practice meet Meaningful Use and Patient Centered Medical Home goals.
  • Perform daily banking through Virtual Merchant and FRMC cashiers.
  • Prepare a daily financial spreadsheet for the practice.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete submission of information to the Central Billing Office.
  • Use collection management reports to keep accounts receivable current.
  • Identify instances of Red Flag Identity theft patterns and report potential threats to the Privacy Officer.
  • Request, locate, send, and receive patient medical records according to federal, state, or local guidelines.
  • Maintain medical appointments for patients.
  • Answer phones in a pleasant manner, screen calls, and direct callers appropriately and expeditiously.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly waiting area, including patient message board, children’s area, and reading materials.
  • Organize and maintain an inventory system to ensure adequate levels of supplies with emphasis on patient care and cost containment.
  • Demonstrate competence related to the application of core values.
  • Practice all facets of health and safety.
  • Demonstrate competence in communication, professionalism, organizational and analytical skills, and technical/professional skills.

Requirements

  • High school graduate; vocational education preferred.
  • Experience in a medical ambulatory setting.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 3 months of employment and maintained.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers with strong typing skills.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word is desired.
  • Must provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
  • Annual tuberculin testing required; initial testing upon hire consists of a 2-step tuberculin test, symptom survey, or chest x-ray.
  • Hepatitis vaccine available or waiver to decline due to prior vaccination.
  • Valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and insurable under Firelands auto policy.
  • Must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Successful completion of a 90-day get-acquainted period.
