Job Summary
This role evaluates donors' eligibility for automated plasmapheresis procedures and administers and supervises approved immunizations in accordance with state regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The position also provides limited emergency care as permitted by licensure or certification, training, and SOPs.
What You'll Do
- Determines donor eligibility for plasmapheresis procedures and immunizations by conducting evaluations to ensure criteria of plasma donors are met and in accordance with SOPs, FDA, CLIA, and cGMP.
- Reviews informed consent forms for plasmapheresis and immunization, explaining procedures, potential adverse events, immunization schedules, possible antibody formation, and dose administration.
- Offers clear opportunity for donors to refuse participation and performs medical history reviews and health assessments for donors using SOPs to facilitate compliance with regulations.
- Reviews donor management system and/or immunization paperwork to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Reviews accumulated data in a timely fashion to confirm eligibility and consults with the donor center's Licensed Physician, as needed.
- Sets donors to appropriate programs and monitors donor reactions to plasmapheresis, documenting accordingly.
- Performs duties for the Hyperimmune Program, if applicable, as described in SOPs.
- Reviews all normal and abnormal test results in donor management system (Nexlynk) to determine continued donor eligibility.
- Ensures confidentiality of employee, donor, and donor center records while performing all duties.
- Counsels donors with abnormal test results or eligibility concerns and defers them according to the donor deferral matrix. Refers donors to appropriate county/state health department or similar for follow-up and diagnostic testing, when applicable per SOP.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What It Takes
- Physician, LPN, or RN: Graduate of a recognized healthcare-related program.
- EMT Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced/Paramedic: Certification or license as an emergency medical technician, if allowable.
- One (1) year of experience in hospital, field care, or plasma center settings preferred.
- Ability to work day, evening, weekend, holiday, and extended shifts as needed.
- Current, valid state license/certification (Physician, RN, LPN, EMT, or equivalent as allowed by state).
- Current CPR certification.
- State-issued authorization or license to perform moderate complexity testing.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motor tasks such as drawing blood.
- Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five (35) pounds.
- Ability to reach, bend, and stoop as necessary.
- Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
- Ability to navigate the office environment safely, including stairs and elevators (if applicable).
- Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
- Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
- Ability to view monitors less than 18” from face for extended periods.
- Ability to work in environments as cold as -40°C and handle dry ice occasionally.
- Ability to perform CPR and respond immediately to donor adverse reactions.
