Responsibilities
- Provide medical assistant care under the supervision of physicians, providers, and/or registered nurse(s) in various ambulatory settings.
- Greet patients and guests utilizing AIDET and provide excellent service experience; keep patients informed of delays and offer alternatives.
- Perform administrative duties in ambulatory settings, including rooming functionality and documentation (vitals, pain, reason for visit, review of medications, social, surgical, family, and medical history).
- Complete work in the EMR in-baskets, telephone communication, MyChart messaging, and document in the medical record.
- Obtain reports, results, and medical records; complete insurance/disability forms, precertification/authorizations, point-of-care testing, transcribing orders, or order entry (protocol).
- Assist with bump lists, wait lists, and appropriate work queues (WQs).
- Schedule appointments, including follow-up visits for patients across the healthcare continuum (physician office visits, imaging, lab) in a high customer-service environment.
- Perform patient outreach and call backs for messages received in pools, MyChart messaging, and confirmation calls.
- Administer vaccines and document appropriately per established policies; collect and handle specimens per protocols, including proper labeling and safety handling.
- Assist physicians/providers with monitoring and reporting lab results; file reports, labs, radiology reports, and correspondence in the EMR.
- Obtain prior authorization for medications, procedures, and testing.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and patients, upholding Cooper’s Mission, Vision, and Values while adhering to the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Maintain working knowledge of regulatory standards and sustain these in daily operations.
- Demonstrate flexibility, multitask in a fast-paced environment, and adjust to patient volume; may be asked to work at other ambulatory offices based on volume.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Requirements
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
- Experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection.
- Epic experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational, written/verbal communication, and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated performance of excellent customer service skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by NJAC (13:35-6.4) approved certifying body and current certification from a recognized certifying board approved by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners.
- Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
