About the role

The Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Macomb is seeking a Medical Physicist to join a dynamic team of professionals. This position is open to candidates at various career stages, offering competitive compensation based on experience.

Team

The successful candidate will join a local team of 2 other physicists, 3 dosimetrists, and 4 physicians who provide care for cancer patients across the Macomb, Clarkston, and Port Huron centers. The physics team, consisting of 12 physicists and 2 physics residents, collaborates closely in all areas of patient care, technical duties, and quality/system improvement projects.

Technologies

• Three Varian TrueBeams
• One Varian Trilogy
• Three CT Simulators (one Philips Big Bore, two GE LightSpeed)
• One Elekta Flexitron HDR
• One Varian Bravos HDR unit
• Advanced technologies such as SGRT (Identify/VisionRT), HyperArc, gating, 4DCBCT, etc.
• Broad range of treatments including SRS/SBRT, respiratory gating, and brachytherapy
• All centers utilize cloud-hosted Eclipse treatment planning and Aria record and verify on a common system supported by a dedicated IT and administration team

Essential Responsibilities

• Acceptance and commissioning of LINAC
• Implementation of clinical stereotactic program
• Radiation therapy equipment calibration, quality assurance
• Collaboration with clinical and medical staff on simulation and treatment planning
• Provide ongoing oversight of quality and safety of patient treatment delivery
• Participation in department quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs
• Participation in clinical research efforts
• Collaboration in network physics initiatives

Requirements

• Masters or PhD degree in medical physics or related discipline
• Board Certified or eligible for certification in therapeutic medical physics from American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification
• Two or more years of prior work experience as a Medical Physicist or Medical Physics Resident in full-service radiation therapy center
