Medical Oncology - Physician Scientist

Job Duties

  • Develop a research program, as well as provide inpatient and outpatient clinic attending services at UW Hospitals and Clinics locations in Madison.
  • Provide clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as clinical research endeavors.
  • Engage in active collaborative research and expand clinical and/or translational research in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.
  • Lead dedicated disease-specific research staff and have access to substantial programmatic research funds.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • 20-30% direct patient care at UW Health approved locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending.
  • 70-80% academic (protected) time for research activities and/or for educational and other scholarly activities, which includes pro-actively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.
  • 5% administrative academic time, and other administrative and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Medical Oncology or Medical Oncology from an accredited fellowship training program is required by the appointment start date.
  • American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.
  • Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.
  • Clinical and research responsibilities with interest in medical oncology, including the development and treatment of cancers in CNS, GU, GI, or Sarcoma.
  • Experience in basic science or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer-reviewed journals, extramural funding, strong written and verbal communication skills, evidence of excellence in teaching and high potential to obtain extramural funding.
