About the Role
Medical Office Specialists are healthcare professionals who work in the front desk or office area of a healthcare provider’s clinic. They manage communications with patients, insurers, and medical staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective healthcare consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Universal Health Services.
Responsibilities
- Fulfill patient care responsibilities, which may include:
- Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
- Accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms
- Assisting patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams
- Collecting patient history and performing screenings per provider guidelines
- Assisting physicians/nurses with procedures and charting
- Relaying instructions to patients and families
- Answering calls and providing pertinent information
- Fulfill clerical responsibilities, which may include:
- Sending/receiving patient medical records
- Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information
- Completing forms and requisitions as needed
- Scheduling appointments
- Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics
- Managing charts to ensure information is completed and accurate
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or Medical Office Specialist (preferred)
- Familiarity with medical terminology (required)
- Experience with patient check-in and check-out processes (according to clinic protocol)
- Knowledge of general medical office procedures
- Understanding of end-of-day cash balancing and charge reconciliation (according to clinic protocol)
- Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
