Medical Laboratory Technologist, Culture Reader - Part Time

Responsibilities
- Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian treatment.
- Examine, interpret, and document microbiological cultures from animal specimens to support the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
- Specialize in reading, interpreting, and documenting bacterial, fungal, and yeast cultures from a variety of animal specimens.
- Evaluate colony morphology, growth characteristics, hemolysis patterns, and organism abundance.
- Perform and interpret gram stains and other microbiological staining procedures.
- Utilize identification methods including biochemical testing, automated systems, and MALDI-TOF technology.
- Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Specialize in an assigned department within the laboratory.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Veterinary Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- Extensive skillset in microbiology, culture reading, knowledge of microbiological media, culture techniques, and organism identification.
- Culture reading experience in a high-volume, fast-paced laboratory.
- Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting, and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
- Positive attitude and ability to bring energy to the lab to support colleagues.
- Strong teamwork orientation and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the role: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone and computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50 lbs, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
- Willingness to work in an environment with potential exposure to biohazards, zoonotic disease agents, and hazardous chemicals.

Pay
Hourly rates targeting $25/hour, based on culture reading skillset.
Schedule
- Part-time position, Monday through Friday.
- Flexible start time between 5 AM and 9 AM.
- Must be able to work one rotating weekend day.
- Shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
- Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
This position is located on-site at our North Grafton, MA lab.
