Description Summary

Performs clinical testing in assigned sections such as general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology sections, with duties including quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, and preventative maintenance of equipment. Recognizes abnormal critical values and follows guidelines for notifying medical team members. Performs clerical, general, and phlebotomy duties, dispenses blood products, and provides laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

• Ensures company philosophy and core values are evident in service delivery.
• Specimen Collection/Handling/Processing: obtains blood specimens via venipuncture and/or fingerstick, accurately identifies and labels, processes specimens, operates centrifuges, and handles other patient specimens.
• Result Reporting: recognizes errors or improbable results, reports critical values, performs tests, and maintains lab testing within established timeframes.
• Quality Control/Performance Improvement: performs and records QC according to policy and procedure, follows CLIA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO guidelines, and reports performance improvement indicators.
• Preventative Maintenance: performs daily and periodic maintenance, troubleshoots minor issues, orders supplies, and adheres to safety and compliance standards.
• Professional Growth: seeks and achieves professional development, assists in training new associates, and follows relevant standards and regulations.

Requirements

• Education: OR Associates Degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent training/experience meeting CLIA requirements.
• Experience: No experience required for graduates of approved programs or six months of approved clinical laboratory experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: Louisiana State Licensure required; New graduates must be Board Certified within one year of hire (excluding Louisiana).
