About the Role

Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician 2 to join the team. This is a full-time night shift position with a set schedule of 10-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Ensures quality specimens for laboratory testing by recognizing pre-analytical factors that adversely affect patient results.
• Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with team members to optimize job performance and foster working relationships.
• Demonstrates knowledge of operational and regulatory standards.
• Operates systems and methodologies to produce timely and accurate data for patients, quality control, and proficiency testing.
• Participates in professional growth opportunities to enhance personal, team, and departmental development by demonstrating operational knowledge and adhering to regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in science from a college/university recognized by a regional or national accreditation agency. Other acceptable forms of education follow the guidelines of the American Society for Clinical Pathology or American Medical Technologists Board certification.
• For TA + Onboarding: Acceptable education includes:
  • Associate's degree or 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in biology, with eligibility for ASCP Board certification.
  • Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) or Accredited Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited Medical Lab Technician program.
  • Successful completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the last ten years.
  • Three years of full-time acceptable clinical experience for eligibility as a Medical Lab Technician.
• One year of experience, or successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited Medical Lab Technician program, or a foreign medical laboratory science clinical training program within the last 12 months (can be used in lieu of one year of full-time acceptable clinical experience).
• Certification as a Certified Medical Lab Technician or Medical Laboratory Technician is required upon start.
