Medical Laboratory Scientist, Part Time Days, Point of Care, Summit, NJ

About the role

The Medical Lab Scientist will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of patient testing conducted outside the traditional laboratory setting. They will assist with the oversight of the daily operation of the Point of Care Testing program across various clinical departments and offsite practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting patient safety and efficient workflow.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates specimens and test orders for acceptability and accepts or rejects according to established guidelines.

• Follows approved standard operating procedures.

• Exhibits technical judgment by correlating test results with diagnosis and previous results as applicable.

• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.

• Validates, operates, maintains and troubleshoots all technical equipment according to approved standard operating procedures.

• Follows quality control policies, documents all related activities, and maintains records of instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.

• Participates in proficiency testing, as assigned and ensures samples are treated the same as patient samples.

• Manages inventory by rotating stock and checking supply expiration dates to ensure availability and compliance.

• Affords assistance in training of team members and students.

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of all Atlantic Health and department safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological, OR Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training.

• ASCP, AMT or defined equivalent preferred.
