Position Highlights

Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - Microbiology
Location: Evanston Hospital
Full Time/Part Time: Part time, 20 hours
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am – 3:30pm, e/o weekend and rotating holidays

What You Will Do

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clinical microbiology tests in one or more sections of the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Ensures the accuracy and precision of diagnostic results through performance of maintenance and calibration of multiplex instrumentation systems.
Routinely resolves technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various laboratory areas.
Identify problems that may adversely affect performance or reporting of results and take corrective action or notify supervising personnel when appropriate.
Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with others. Good communication and organizational skills.

What You Will Need

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a laboratory science or medical technology and/or the required courses to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing.
  • Certification: MT or MLS (ASCP) preferred.
  • Experience: Experience preferred.
  • Unique or Preferred Skills: Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various Laboratory areas with assistance and under supervision. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
