The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) position at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital is responsible for performing routine tests on biological specimens and ensuring accurate and timely results.
Responsibilities
- Performs analytical tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens
- Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or recognizing abnormal/unusual results
- Recognizes factors affecting measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to protocols
- Maintains quality control for all testing and releases results only after meeting established ranges
- Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work areas, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program
- MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP)
- Completion of an externship program (preferred)
