Barnes-Jewish St. Peter's Hospital is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II to join its laboratory team as a Generalist in a community-based hospital environment, performing a broad range of laboratory testing.

About the Role

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital proudly serves the healthcare needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren counties. The 102-bed community hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including specialized centers for cancer, breast health, cardiology, neurosurgery, and outpatient surgery. The Laboratory Departments provide both inpatient and outpatient services, with every decision made in the best interest of patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
  • Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
  • Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
  • Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
  • Assesses technical and/or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluates possible solutions, and chooses an appropriate course of action.
  • Reports and maintains records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turnaround times for routine testing and stats.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Handles specific quality functions in an organized and timely fashion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field.
  • ASCP, AMT, AAB certification or equivalent (preferred/required).
  • Strong generalist laboratory skills and attention to quality patient care.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Less than 2 years of supervisor experience.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week.
  • 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM.
  • Weekend and holiday rotation required.
