About the role
Barnes-Jewish St. Peter's Hospital is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II to join its laboratory team as a Generalist. This is an excellent opportunity for an ASCP-certified laboratory professional who enjoys working in a community-based hospital environment and performing a broad range of laboratory testing.
Responsibilities
- Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
- Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
- Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
- Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
- Affirms technical and/or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluates possible solutions and chooses an appropriate course of action to solve the problem.
- Reports and maintains record of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
Qualifications
- ASCP, AMT, AAB or equivalent preferred/required
- Strong generalist laboratory skills and attention to quality patient care
Skills
- Knowledge of quality control and basic instrument maintenance
- Understanding of procedure methodologies and reference ranges
- Ability to document activities accurately
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Full-time
3 twelve-hour shifts per week
6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
Weekend and holiday rotation required
