Medical Laboratory Scientist - Medical Laboratory Technologist

Oklahoma Arthritis Center (OAC) is seeking a detail-oriented laboratory professional to maintain and operate our medical laboratory, providing critical data for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Develop and implement quality assurance procedures.
• Ensure safety and compliance with standard operating procedures, OSHA regulations, and infection control protocols.
• Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, immunology, and other diagnostic tests.
• Conduct phlebotomy tasks and ensure quality control in specimen collection, sampling, and record-keeping.
• Report test results following clinic protocols, immediately alerting physicians and nurses about critical ("red flag") results.
• Manage laboratory supplies, including ordering, stocking, and maintaining inventory.
• Ensure compliance and successful COLA inspections.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
• Follow established dress code and promote a professional image.
• Resolve assigned tasks in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) program.
• Assist co-workers as needed and maintain open communication.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
• Demonstrate productivity during downtime and maintain emotional control in all situations.
• Adhere to company policies, including attendance, punctuality, and efficient use of equipment and supplies.

Requirements

• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with ASCP Certification or equivalent, or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with ASCP Certification or equivalent.
• Twelve to eighteen months of experience in high complexity testing is preferred.

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, techniques, standards, and applications.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, communicable diseases, and environmental health issues.
• Understanding of laboratory regulations, including quality control, safety, documentation, sterilization, and equipment maintenance.
• Proficiency in performing and applying appropriate testing procedures and laboratory tests.
• Skill in using computers for database management, testing, and record-keeping.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, problem-solve, and make decisions regarding test results.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams.
• Ability to recognize and resolve hazardous conditions, remaining calm in emergency situations.
• Proficiency in mathematical calculations and manual/finger dexterity for precise, accurate work.
• Ability to organize workload effectively and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Physical & Environmental Conditions

• Ability to sit, perform data entry, and view a computer screen for extended periods.
• Daily standing, walking, bending, and maneuvering.
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
• Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
• This is a safety-sensitive position.

Schedule

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. Hours may vary based on departmental and clinic needs.

Travel

Travel may be required for this position.
