General Summary
The Lab Customer Service team at Henry Ford Hospital offers a unique opportunity for Medical Laboratory Scientists to engage in a dynamic, problem-solving role. This position involves triaging phone calls, processing orders, managing client communication, tracking shipments, handling critical lab values, and working closely with the sales team, pathologists, and outreach business partners.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs routine and complex biological, chemical, cytological, hematological, histological, immunological, microscopic, and/or bacteriological tests procedures on laboratory specimens, using manual or automated techniques and information systems.
- Diagnoses, prevents, or treats diseases through the use of diagnostic tests.
- Evaluates instrument performance and quality control results to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all analytic data before release.
- Correlates results with other lab data and/or disease states.
- Identifies technical, instrument, pharmacologic, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
- Performs calibration, preventive maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, instruments, and/or laboratory information systems.
- May perform processing, testing, and reporting without direct supervision following successful completion of competency testing.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Participates in various quality assessment and improvement activities, including proficiency testing, gathering data for quality assurance monitors, developing and adhering to safe work practices, participating in quality improvement committees, and successfully completing regular competency assessments.
- Maintains the laboratory and procedures in inspection-ready condition.
Education/Experience Required
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Coursework must align with duties of the specific section Medical Laboratory discipline position and meet the education eligibility routes for Medical Laboratory Scientist listed on the ASCP website at (ascp.org).
- Possesses a categorical scientist level certification as a BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB; or has met the requirements for AAB and/or AMT certifications.
- Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions are required.
Certifications/Licensures
- Certification at the technologist, or medical/clinical lab scientist level from a nationally recognized agency, such as ASCP, AMT, ASM, AAB, AABB, ACS, or HEW is preferred.
