About the role

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist I, II, or III / Medical Technologist to join our team. This position involves applying technical skills to perform a full range of sample tests and laboratory services under close supervision or general direction.

Responsibilities

  • All Trains in and performs a full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services.
  • Trains in and performs patient specimen testing. Ensures sample suitability.
  • Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy.
  • Trains and performs in accepting and processing samples for on-site testing or forwards to contracted reference laboratories.
  • Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments. Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments.
  • Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.
  • Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory.
  • Answers questions from patient providers regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques.
  • Participates in continuing education programs.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Medical Laboratory Technician: An Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist I, II, Medical Laboratory Scientist III / Medical Technologist: A Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Non-supervisory - One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Supervisory - Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience.

  • Knowledge of protocols and practices in infectious disease control.
  • Skill in operating laboratory equipment.

  • Skill in working independently or as a team member.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Qualifications

  • Medical Laboratory Technician: Must obtain certification within 9 months of hire in the following: Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Technician (NCA) OR equivalent certification (as determined by a national credential certification agency).
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist I, II, Medical Laboratory Scientist III / Medical Technologist: Must obtain certification within 9 months of hire in the following: Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification (as determined by a national credential certification agency).
