About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, whether in the role of Testing Personnel or General Supervisor, performs various tasks related to specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping. This role involves adherence to quality control policies, documentation of quality control activities, and the ability to identify and address issues affecting test performance.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, or report such issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent.
  • Certification: Medical Technologist (ASCP) [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) required.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of lab experience.

  • Skills: Ability to work independently, evaluate situations, and act appropriately; multi-tasking; attention to detail; adherence to protocols; professionalism; excellent interpersonal skills; interaction with various staff; basic knowledge of federal, state, and accreditation requirements.
