About the role

This role is a hospital-based position at HUMC. We are hiring for first (7:30 am to 4 pm) and second shift (4 pm to 12:30 am). All shifts include weekend and holiday rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits have received, expiration, and opened dates, perform and document QC analysis, make quality control decisions, and inform supervisory personnel of problems.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports to physicians.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • May assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated.

Requirements

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology preferred; or Bachelor's/Associate's degree in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493 MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently, establish work priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients.
  • Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
