Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain turnaround time for results, including STAT or critical results, and ensure proper instrument function through quality control analysis.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of problems and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government/regulatory agency inspections.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting (high complexity testing).
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in the present department.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Frequent standing and working at the bench for long periods.
  • Manual dexterity necessary for using various laboratory instruments and apparatuses.
  • Theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Associates Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred), Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (preferred).
  • ASCP Certification (preferred).
  • MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist credentials.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
