About the role
Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility in specialties qualified by education, training and experience.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
- Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
- Report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
- Ensure reagents/test kits have received, expired, and opened dates, perform and document QC analysis, make quality control decisions, and inform supervisory personnel of problems.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports to physicians.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
- Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
- Adhere to established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed by management.
- Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
Requirements
- One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
- Frequent standing, walking, and use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments.
- Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
- BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- ASCP Certification (Preferred).
- MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

- Interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
- Communication skills to handle telephone inquiries from clients and deal with client information confidentially.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
