About the role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, whether in the role of Testing Personnel or General Supervisor, plays a crucial role in the diagnostic and therapeutic processes. This position involves performing various types of laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and providing oversight to laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and record keeping.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are handled and analyzed similarly to patient samples.
- Adhere to quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
- Correct deviations from performance specifications or report issues to supervisors.
- Supervise assigned workstations, including Quality Control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management.
- Perform specimen processing, test analysis, and reporting results independently.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as CLIA.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
- Clinical Laboratory Sciences certification from ASCP-BOC.
- Experience in a clinical laboratory setting, preferably 1-2 years.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and its operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Attention to detail and adherence to protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Medical Technologist (ASCP) certification.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Basic knowledge of federal, state, and accreditation requirements.
