About the role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS I) position at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc., part of Mass General Brigham, involves performing waived and non-waived testing under CLIA regulations. This role requires a professional level of knowledge to read and interpret test results used by healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested similarly to patient specimens.
- Adhere to quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
- Identify and report problems affecting test performance or results, and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and procedures on blood, plasma, and other body fluids using instruments and/or manual methods.
- Operate all instruments/analyzers according to established procedures or instructions.
- Document all QC results and corrective actions.
- Ensure the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of test results according to laboratory policies.
- Participate in QA/QI activities and proficiency testing programs.
- Participate in internal and external continuing education.
- Document errors and report them using the hospital's Safety Reporting System.
- Comply with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
- ASCP certification or equivalent.
Skills
- Proficiency in using various laboratory instruments and methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
