Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Chantilly, VA - Friday to Tuesday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
Department - Spec Chem - LCMSMS - Clinical Laboratory
Pay range: $32.52 - $43.70 / hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
• Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
• Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
• Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
• Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
• Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
• Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
• Inform supervisory personnel of all problems associated with test procedures and cooperate with investigations.
• Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
• Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or practice controls as directed.
• Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
• Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
• Assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated.

Qualifications

• Education: BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or qualifies as a Technologist under 42 CFR493.1489. Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from NACES or AICE.
• Experience: 1 year laboratory experience and/or training in high complexity testing in the specialties/sub-specialties in which testing will be performed.
• Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods, lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds, frequent walking and standing, significant manual dexterity, and confidentiality of client information.
• Knowledge: Theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty, organizational/departmental policies and procedures, and Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
• Skills: Problem-solving skills, detail orientation, independence, prioritization, effective communication, confidentiality, proficiency in Microsoft Office, planning, organizing, and completing work assignments under stress.
