About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs test procedures in a clinical laboratory and conveys the results to the physician or designee in an accurate and timely manner for the purpose of patient diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Technical responsibilities: Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow, verifies orders, specimens, and reagents, maintains test system integrity, and performs specimen preparation and testing.
  • Collecting, receiving, and processing of specimens: Verifies specimens, prioritizes processing, aliquots specimens, and prepares and transfers specimens.
  • Analytical testing: Performs analytical testing, evaluates QC results, and follows established notification protocols for critical values.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving: Recognizes and addresses test system performance problems, escalates unresolved issues, and coordinates simultaneous series of tests.
  • Post-analytical responsibilities: Verifies and reports results, generates reports, responds to inquiries, stores documents, and handles billing and charge capture.
  • Universal responsibilities: Ensures quality of operations, follows SOPs, operates instruments/equipment, uses computers, participates in training, and attends development sessions.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health; General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligibility; or Categorical BB, C, H, or M (ASCP) Certification or eligibility.
  • License/Certification and Regulatory Agency: Must be ASCP certified (or equivalent) within one year of employment if hired after 1/19/2025.

Compensation: USD 31.24 - USD 43.74 - hourly
