Medical Laboratory Scientist - Blood Bank, Evening
About the role
The Blood Bank Technologist 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM position plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive necessary blood products in a highly regulated environment. Key responsibilities include performing testing, processing blood products, maintaining compliance with SOPs, handling phone inquiries, and assisting in training new employees and students.
Responsibilities
- Process specimens, fill orders, issue blood products, and minimize wastage.
- Handle phone inquiries and collaborate with other departments.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergent situations.
- Perform critical tests, including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening, compatibility testing, direct antiglobulin tests, and transfusion reaction investigations.
- Operate and troubleshoot Blood Bank instrumentation, conduct quality control (QC), and maintain equipment.
- Comply with cGMPs for manufacturing and modifying blood components.
- Maintain accurate inventory management of blood products, tissue, and supplies.
- Perform advanced serological procedures and resolve basic serological discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely task completion.
- Assist in training new employees, students, and medical staff.
- Participate in department improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Requires Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science.
- MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification.
- Successful completion of the hospital’s Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment.
- Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.

Pay and Benefits
This role offers a competitive base pay range of $27.95 - $40.70/Hourly Grade 6, along with comprehensive benefits, career advancement opportunities, differentials, premiums, and bonuses as applicable.
