Medical Laboratory Scientist

Full time, 40 hours per week, evening shift at Trinity Health Oakland (Pontiac, MI). Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science. A bachelor’s degree in science with relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting may be considered.
• Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is required if the MLS/MT degree is not obtained.
• Proof of educational transcripts must be submitted at time of application.
• Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification (ASCP or NCLS) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Record and/or enter laboratory computer results of tests performed; advise supervisor of spurious, unusual, or highly abnormal results before release.
• Report stat test results and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner according to established policies and procedures.
• Compare test results with previous patient results when indicated, flagging unusual fluctuations to supervisor or pathologist.
• Perform required quality control, equipment maintenance, and calibration; operate laboratory equipment pertinent to the assigned section.
• Notify appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations per department policy.
• Prepare standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
• Contact nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results and for clarification of requests or routine problems.
