About the role

As a Medical Lab Scientist, you will be a critical diagnostic expert, performing complex laboratory tests to ensure accurate, timely results vital for patient diagnosis and treatment. You will execute a wide range of analytical procedures across various lab disciplines (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, etc.), analyze specimens, operate and maintain instruments, interpret results, and conduct quality control, providing crucial data for clinical decisions.

Your role requires a strong scientific foundation, advanced technical proficiency, exceptional problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail, with a paramount commitment to accuracy and regulatory adherence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens, adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits.
  • Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures; contact instrument vendors for assistance or repair as needed.
  • Perform required calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records to ensure tests are performed within established parameters.
  • Perform proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders.
  • Assist in the evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide physicians with the most current laboratory technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA.
  • Certification as a Med Technologist - ASCP within 12 months or Medical Technologist AMT within 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • International Medical Laboratory Scientist certification.
  • Blood Banking Chemistry - ASCP.
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Technologist certification.
  • Technologist in Molecular Biology.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist - Med Technologist.
  • Medical Technologist AAB.
  • Technologist in Microbiology.
  • Medical Technologist AMT.
  • Specialist in Hematology.
  • Specialist in Microbiology.
  • Med Technologist - ASCP.
  • Histotechnologist certification.
