Medical Laboratory Scientist 12-Hour Days

About the role

Under the supervision of Technical Supervisor and Shift Supervisor, performs laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Follows all hospital and laboratory policies, guidelines, procedures and protocols. May assume charge duties in absence of Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests to obtain diagnostic data.
• Adhere to hospital and laboratory policies, guidelines, procedures and protocols.
• Assume charge duties when supervisors are absent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a health science program or medical laboratory science; or a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in lieu of the degree.
• Employees hired prior to 1/1/09 are grandfathered into this position.
• Current Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) license under Florida Statute Chapter 483, Part IV (61F‑5), or obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
• Note: Limited scope of practice applies until licensure is obtained; results entry will not be performed.
• Must undergo background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory (preferred).
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications and office software.
• Certification as ASCP, AMT, NCA, or equivalent medical laboratory scientist (preferred).
