Medical Laboratory Scientist 1

About the role

Inova’s Central Lab is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 to join their Microbiology team. This position is Full-Time Night Shift: Monday-Friday, Every Other Weekend.

Responsibilities

• Ensures quality specimens for Laboratory testing by recognizing pre-analytical factors that adversely affect patient results.
• Operates systems/methodologies to produce timely and accurate data for patients, quality control and proficiency testing.
• Participates in departmental development by demonstrating operational knowledge and adhering to regulatory standards.
• Participates in professional growth opportunities to enhance personal, team and departmental development.
• Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with team members to optimize job performance and foster working relationships.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in science from a college/university recognized by regional or national accreditation agency.
• Experience: 1 year successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science accredited Medical Lab Scientist program or Accredited Bureau of Health Education Schools accredited Medical Lab Technician program, within the last 12 months can be used in lieu of 1 year full-time acceptable clinical experience.
• Certification: Must be eligible for ASCP or AMT Board certification consistent with scope of responsibility to include: Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Technologist Blood Banking (BB), SBB, Technologist Chemistry (C), Technologist Hematology (H), Technologist in Microbiology (M), Specialist in Hematology (SH), Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT), Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB), Specialist in Microbiology (SMB), Specialist in Microbiology (SM), Specialist in Chemistry (SC), Clinical Laboratory Technologist (HEW).
• Certification must be obtain within 2 years of hire date.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university in any Science with 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the baccalaureate degree.
• Other acceptable forms of education/experience: A 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the last ten years.
