Medical Lab Technician (MLT)- (Mon-Thurs, Nights)

Purpose/Description

Incumbent performs basic procedures and tests in hematology or chemistry and microbiology, urinalysis, serology under the guidance of the Medical Technologist using limited independent judgment. Incumbents must coordinate with other departments, physicians, residents, or patients effectively to ensure accurate diagnosis, information, and/or scheduling. Incumbents must be capable of troubleshooting and recognizing technical problems as they arise seeking assistance from the supervisor when controls fail and results are not as expected.

Requirements

• Education: Typically requires an associate degree in the clinical laboratory sciences
• Experience: Performs specialized assays or procedures
• Evaluates, troubleshoots problems and makes decisions related to specimen preparation and procedures for preparation
• Maintains lab work records
• Participates in work-related conferences and education
• May participate in and be responsible for decisions involving quality control programs, instrument selection and maintenance and reagent purchases
• Participates in the introduction of new procedures and in the evaluation of new instruments

Licenses/Certifications

• Completion of an MLT certification exam
