Medical Lab Technician/Medical Lab Technologist- Full Time Days

About the role

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is seeking a Medical Lab Tech (Lab Generalist) competent in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis. The schedule is full time, day shift with weekend and holiday rotation.

Responsibilities

• Utilize quality control for decision making on a routine basis to establish standards.
• Communicate critical values in accordance with departmental policy.
• Recognize abnormal results and take appropriate action in accordance with departmental policy.
• Accurately perform STAT and routine orders within established time limits.
• Adequately collect and/or process specimens.
• Safely perform all routine maintenance procedures.
• Perform and evaluate instrument functions.
• Recognize malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
• Consistently complete documentation of maintenance procedures and/or instrument malfunctions and notify appropriate personnel.
• Communicate instrumentation status to appropriate personnel, including the oncoming shift, by utilizing the Departmental Communication book.
• Monitor inventory levels and follow appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies.
• Review appropriate specimen logs to confirm completion of work and resolve outstanding tests.
• Demonstrate adequate knowledge of appropriate computer functions.
• Assist Central Processing by receiving specimens, responding to the Pneumatic tube, and answering telephones.
• Adapt work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Good working knowledge and application of standard laboratory practices.
• Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.

Qualifications

• Technical School/2 Years College / Associate’s Degree for Medical Lab Technician.
• AS (MLT) with ASCP eligible or equivalent.
• Bachelor's Degree for Medical Lab Technologist.
