Medical Lab Tech/Medical Technologist
Job Summary
Supports and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.
Example Of Essential Functions
- Performs only those moderate/ high complexity tests that are authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
- Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Performs and Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follows the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problems or immediately notifies the general supervisor, technical supervisor, or Laboratory Medical Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Working knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.)
- Basic computer skills required.
Minimum Education, Training, And Experience
- Associate’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program which is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or Associate’s degree in a laboratory related science such as Biology or Chemistry and equivalent training, education, and experience (such as military training)
- ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized MLT certification or equivalent categorical certification required.
- One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience preferred with Associate’s degree and completion of a Medical Technology program.
- One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience required for laboratory science Associate’s Degree such as Biology or Chemistry.

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:
Physical Demands
Sedentary - Light Work - Lifting up to 15 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes). While work is mostly done sitting, a certain amount of walking or standing is often necessary.
Ergonomic Risk Factors
- Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.

Pay
Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable. Pay range: $26.46 - $48.14
