Medical Lab Tech II (PRN)

About the Role

BJC HealthCare System is seeking a PRN Generalist Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT/MLS II) for Memorial East Shiloh (1404 Cross St., Shiloh, IL). This is a PRN position with holiday rotation experience preferred. Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial Hospital Shiloh provide a full range of medical, surgical, critical, and emergency care services, including pediatric emergency care, heart and vascular care, and stroke-ready services. Memorial Hospital Shiloh is a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital recognized with Magnet status for nursing excellence.

Responsibilities

• Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
• Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
• Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
• Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
• Assesses technical and/or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluates possible solutions, and chooses an appropriate course of action.
• Reports and maintains records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turnaround times for routine testing and stats.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Life Sciences or related field.
• ASCP, AMT, AAB certification or equivalent, or eligibility.
• 2 or more years of experience preferred.
