Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - St. Joseph Warren Hospital

About the role

Mercy Health seeks a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) to perform routine tests on biological specimens, determine specimen acceptability, maintain quality control, and provide physicians with accurate results.

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or recognizing abnormal/unusual results
• Recognizes factors affecting measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to protocols
• Maintains quality control for all testing and releases results only after meeting established ranges
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP)
• Completion of an externship program (preferred)

• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
• Professional engagement with staff and patients
