The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) position at St. Charles Hospital is responsible for performing routine tests on biological specimens, ensuring quality results, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, adhering to documented laboratory procedures.
  • Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or recognizing abnormal/unusual results.
  • Recognizes factors affecting measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to protocols.
  • Maintains quality control for all testing and ensures results are released only after meeting established ranges.
  • Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work areas, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program.
  • Certification: MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP).
  • Experience: Completion of an externship program (preferred).
