The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) position at Maryview Medical Center is essential for ensuring accurate and timely testing of biological specimens, maintaining patient safety, and providing valuable diagnostic information to healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Performs analytical tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, adhering to documented laboratory procedures.
- Determines the acceptability of specimens through visual inspections or recognizing abnormal/unusual results.
- Recognizes and addresses factors affecting measurements and results according to established protocols.
- Maintains quality control for all testing and ensures results are released only after meeting established ranges.
- Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work areas, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program.
- Certification: MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP).
- Experience: Completion of an externship program (preferred).
