Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - Core Laboratory - Defiance Hospital
About the role

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) position at Defiance Hospital is responsible for performing routine tests on biological specimens, ensuring quality results, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures
- Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or recognizing abnormal/unusual results
- Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to protocols
- Maintains quality control for all testing and ensures results are released only after meeting established ranges
- Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures following hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program
- MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP)
- Completion of an externship program (preferred)
