Medical Lab Scientist Intern PRN
About the role
As a Medical Laboratory Student Intern at Timpanogos Regional Hospital, you will join a highly functioning team that supports multiple departments with reliable testing and compassionate, professional interactions.
Responsibilities
- Inoculate and cultivate microbiological specimens from all body sites according to protocol.
- Prepare and interpret gram stains.
- Perform sensitivities on appropriate pathogens according to protocol.
- Discuss abnormal results and difficult analyses with the department supervisor.
- Perform microbiology kit testing (Strep A, Strep B, Influenza, RSV, CD toxin, Giardia antigen).
- Document results in the laboratory computer system.
- Perform and document quality control checks and instrument maintenance.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science program and working toward an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist.
- Complete coursework from an eligible university (CLS major) and apply/be accepted to the internship.
- Ability to correctly and safely operate automated Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Transfusion Medicine, and Urinalysis equipment.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good computer knowledge and keyboarding skills required.
- Must successfully pass a color blindness test.
