Medical Lab Scientist I - Nights- Core Lab

About the Role

Provides information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, or analyses.

Responsibilities

• Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering cooperation.
• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
• Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently.
• Provides clinical laboratory information by answering questions, interpreting test results, and communicating abnormal patient conditions to supervisory personnel, physicians, or nurses.
• Participates in the training of new staff and students as a mentor or technical resource.
• Performs clinical laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, bacteriology, mycology, serology, parasitology, endocrinology, immunology, and urinalysis.
• Performs functions to established productivity guidelines with minimal errors.
• Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
• Documents information appropriately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), including critical values and communication logs.
• Reports mandated information to public health departments or designated officials.
• Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation, performs preventative maintenance, and troubleshoots problems.
• Actively participates in the laboratory quality plan/program, including investigative reports and notification of delays.
• Performs daily quality controls, documents QC for each lab procedure, and troubleshoots issues.
• Participates in external proficiency testing and continuing education to maintain licensure and stay updated on changes in the field.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework sufficient to meet ASCP requirements for certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Specialist, or HEW (MT).
• One year of experience working in an acute care facility as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (preferred).
• Certification as MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), categorical or specialist (ASCP), MT(HEW), or MT(AMT). New graduates must provide evidence of certification within 6 months of hire.

Working Conditions

• Medium-duty physical demands.
• Reasonable expectation of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Pay

$39.50—$44.52 USD per hour.
