Medical Lab Scientist I
Responsibilities
- Performs superior quality specimen processing, evaluation and results reporting.
- Independently performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Recognizes and resolves specimen integrity issues as needed.
- Interprets patient results and appropriately reports critical values including documentation of provider notification.
- Perform and evaluate QC with necessary corrective action taken and noted.
- Responsible for thorough knowledge of instrument calibration, linearity, correlations, and other essential quality functions. Follows universal precautions when handling specimens.
- Absorbs and assists with coverage for alternate shifts when needed. Practices positive teamwork and maintains cooperative and respectful relationships with staff.
- Maintains excellent technical knowledge regarding area of responsibility. May be required to train/mentor new staff.

About the Role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs routine Laboratory procedures accurately and efficiently according to the regulations, policies, and procedures of Laboratory Services. The MLS performs quantitative, qualitative, and subjective laboratory procedure by manual and automated methods for inpatients and outpatients in all disciplines of the lab for which they are qualified to perform testing (in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and/or DNV-GL). This may include Microbiology, Molecular, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Hematology, Blood bank, and phlebotomy as needed.
