Medical Lab Scientist - Core Lab

Location: Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte, NC

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and procedures, including quality control, specimen collection, processing, and analysis.
• Assist in evaluating new or modified techniques and train other personnel on equipment and software as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely test results.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
• Technologist/Scientist Certification from ASCP or AMT (BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB).
• Minimum of five years of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
• One year of experience as a laboratory scientist (clinical internships of 12 months duration meet this requirement).
• New graduates and new hires must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
• All individuals newly certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004, must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP).
• All individuals newly certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006, must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP).

Skills

• Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform a full range of laboratory tests and communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
• Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests.
• Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
• Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff, and the public.
• Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in the laboratory field.
• Ability to follow written protocols.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to communicate clearly.

Schedule

Full-time, 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Monday – Thursday, with occasional weekends and holidays.
